The Sacramento Mineral Society encourages the exploration of the earth by means of

trips into the field, not only for the collecting of rocks and specimens, but also as a means

to explore the natural world and its history. Participating in field trips is also a wonderful

way to enjoy the camaraderie of other Rockhounds.

We are a member of the Northern California Cooperative Field Trip Chairman's

Association (CO-OP)* and through this association may also participate in field trips

and events presented by the North Bay Field Trip Association (NBFT).

Field trips are also offered through the CFMS.

Of course, the SMS also organizes and sponsors field trips which we

announce to our members and share with the CO-OP.

Complete information for each trip is posted in the SMS Club House and basic

information is provided in the monthly SMS Matrix. Normally, a contact is provided for

each trip from whom detailed information may be obtained, or you may contact the SMS

Field Trip Chair for further information. Participants should always contact

the trip leader in advance to verify details - climate and weather, tools, safety concerns, clothing,

vehicle requirements, directions to the collecting area, and camp, motel and facility availability.

Participants should also remember to wear their club badge, sing-in with the trip leader,

and obey the AFMS Code of Ethics, Land Use Policy, and all safety rules.

And don't forget about the 2008 Snyder's Pow Wow.
This is one of the biggest annual Rockhounding events in our area.
